NPP Rooppur

NPP Rooppur is a nuclear power plant being constructed by the team of Russian specialists in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The ambitious project involves the construction and commissioning of two power units with VVER-1200 reactors.

At the current stage of NPP construction project the branch company of AtomTechAlliance in Bangladesh is performing a wide range of construction and installation work in the area of more than 400,000 square meters:

  • excavation works, including pits excavation of pits and ground shaping;
  • reinforced concrete works;
  • road construction
  • fencing
  • power supply, electricity supply, lighting works
  • water supply
  • Sewage
  • Construction site survey

Our company has implemented the office building on the NPP construction site, as well as a base camp with a total area of 6000 square meters ready to accommodate more than a hundred people.

Soil stabilization through deep soil mixing

JSC “AMT Engineering” implemented technically challenging project on soil stabilization through deep soil mixing method under the main and the auxiliary buildings in harsh climatic conditions of in the People's Republic of Bangladesh at the “Rooppur” Nuclear Power Plant construction. The set of works was performed acting as the subcontractor of the known worldwide giants “FREYSSINET”, France and “BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH”, Germany

  • Overall extent of stabilization: 700 000 m3
  • Technique employed: Deep Soil Mixing (DSM)
  • Cement content: 250-300kg/m3
  • Pile diameter: 2m
  • Pile penetration depth: from 3 up to 15m
  • Soils employed: sand, loam, clay
  • Quality control: Plate load test, Pinhole test, UCS (Uniaxial compression strength), Pressuremeter (Menard) test, seismoacoustic tests

Up to 400 Bengali construction workers were simultaneously involved in the project implementation. The works were carried out on a shift basis around-the-clock, including during tropical rainstorms.

Construction of a factory workshop

By the request of the company Freyssinet (France), that is engaged in the installation of the PT system of the protective shell of the reactor building, our company in a short time constructed a factory workshop for the pre-assembly of components. After approval with the General Contractor (JSC Atomstroyexport), work was carried out on the design and construction of the workshop (span – 15 m, length – 42 m, height of structures – 10 m). Inside the workshop there are areas for welding and fitting and assembly works, as well as a cantilever crane with a load capacity of 5.0 t for loading and unloading operations. The workshop frame structures and foundations are designed in accordance with the requirements of regulatory documents of the Russian Federation and the the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The frame is made of metal structures and sheathed with profiled sheet. The whole range of works included:

production of metal structures of the workshop

  • General construction works
  • installation of metal frame
  • laying out networks
  • facade and roofing works

installation of equipment and a lifting cantilever crane (performed by Bangladeshi builders under the supervision of seconded engineering staff from Moscow).

Installation of containment pre-tensioning system

In accordance with modern safety requirements, installation of containment pre-tensioning system is planed at the Rooppur NPP. The system is designed to compress the reactor building envelope in order to compensate for the tensile forces that occur in emergency situation under the influence of internal overpressure.
Under the contract with ASE JSC, the system is installed by Freyssinet (France). Being the partner of the French contractor, AMT Engineering performs the entire range of works in this area: from design of fasteners and the development of process maps to manufacturing of system components with their further installation at the reactor building. To date, the following stages have been completed:

  • installation of anchor wells and vertical channels on -1,850 buildings 10UJA, 20UJA
  • installation of anchor wells, vertical and horizontal channels up to approx. +20,420 buildings 10UJA.

Work continues at the pre-assembly site on installation of vertical and horizontal channelizers on the blocks of the 3rd tier 10UJA and the 1st tier 20UJA.
